when Ava Rural Fire Department responds to a house fire, they spend an average of $100 to $200 on gas just driving the trucks to the fire. This does not include the gas used during the fire to keep the trucks running or to go get water
when Ava Rural Fire Department responds to a brush fire, they spend an average of $25.00 to $75 on gas just driving the trucks to the fire. This does not include the gas used during the fire to keep the trucks running or to go get water
the fire trucks get 2 to 5 miles per gallon of gas
the telephone system called the Fire Bar through which you can call for emergency help costs $54 per month
the insurance for the equipment costs $9,000 per year
the hand held radios that the fire fighters carry so that they can respond to calls and so that they can communicate while fighting the fires cost $450 a piece
the radios in the trucks cost $1,000 a piece
annual maintenance on the trucks cost $2,000 to $5,000 a year
upkeep and replacement of hoses, rakes, oxygen tanks, etc. costs $500 to $3,000 per year depending on what needs replaced
All of this is provided to the community for $50 per year membership!
The volunteers average 2,100 hours per year of their time to protect our community.
Membership dues do not cover the expense of the fire department. Donations ARE necessary to keep it running!
